FIREARMS COMPETITION
The firearms competition (aka Top Gun) will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2010. Beginning at 3:00 p.m. So come and register for the conference and the competition - You will need to bring your own equipment - gun, holster, ammunition (50 rounds). DON'T forget your Police Power Card. SUMMER GPA CONFERENCE Summer conference will be here before you know it, so make plans to attend. It will be held at the Jekyll Island Resort at Jekyll Island, Georgia - August 18 - 20, 2010. The registration form and information about the hotel has been posted, check the Forms Section of the website. REMINDER: REGISTRATION IS DUE BY JULY 27, 2010. (Even though the deadline has passed - doesn't mean you can't go ahead and mail it in - we have extended the deadline to August 6, 2010) The Board has worked real hard to bring you a great conference - it kicks off on Wednesday with Registration beginning at 2:00, Firearms Competition at 3:00, GPA Business Meeting at 5:00 (please attend), Hospitality at 5:30 (a chance to meet with old friends and make new friends), a dance begins at 8:30. Starting at 7:30 on Thursday (registration) and the Conference begins at 8:00 a.m. with a welcome from Bo (GPA President), followed by a word from Derrick Schofield and Stan Cooper, information on Nutrition & Exercise, Educational Opportunities, Conflict Resolution, then Lunch (provided), (WHEW! We have a full morning but hang in their, the afternoon is even better) - Misdemeanor Probation, and one we all need Managing Stress and a few other surprises. Then stick around and head to the Hospitality Room and meet up with old friends and your new friends. Then head on over and enjoy the famous GPA Low Country Boil (provided). Then come and dance your wonderful meal off at 8:30. On Friday, we will begin with the Awards Breakfast (provided) at 8:00 a.m., then we have a guest speaker coming in (8:45 a.m.) and speaking on "Keepers of the Gate", then Commissioner Owens will be there (stick around he will be presenting a special award), then we will be hearing from our former Corrections Director - Michael Nail, then the GPA Awards will be handed out - find out who won the "Top Gun" Competition, Scholarships, Impact Award and the Lee Broome Award; then the winners of the lawn mower and other door prizes and be adjourned by noon. So grab some friends and head on down to the beach and have some great training and fellowship. If you have never been this is a good one to come to. So send in your registration TODAY! GEORGIA SHERIFF YOUTH HOMES The GPA will once again collect items needed at the GEORGIA SHERIFF YOUTH HOMES, so when you start your back-to-school shopping don't forget to pick up some extras and bring to summer conference. Below is a list of items needed:
DOOR PRIZES Everyone likes to win a door prize. If you have any connections or resources to help us collect door prizes to be given out at the Summer Conference - we are asking for your help in obtaining them. Just bring them to Summer Conference and when you register you can leave it at the registration table. Be sure you have a card on it as to who donated it and your name - we want to give credit to those who helped make this a great conference for everyone. Thanks in advance for your help! Georgia had around 16 representatives from the State, Dekalb County and retirees.
